The Goshen Green Garden
WHO we are and WHAT we do.
The Goshen Green Garden (GGG) was established in 2014 by the Church of Christ Congregational on the Goshen Agricultural Society’s land on Route 63 in Goshen, CT. The garden continues to be a thriving ministry of the church.
It is a community garden whose mission is to:
-
Grow fresh organic food to distribute free to local distribution centers that provide for those in need.
-
Offer an opportunity to members of the community to grow fresh organic food
-
Provide educational opportunities to the greater community.
Volunteer members of the community plant, weed and harvest and deliver the crops in the 1000’ plot known as the "Garden of Feedin’ ", dedicated to growing food to share at The Torrington Community Kitchen, Friendly Hands, FISH, Goshen Community Care and Hospice and with the Goshen seniors. We raise nearly 1,000 pounds a year of fresh organic vegetables in the garden and donate them to those in need in our greater community. Because of this effort, others in the Goshen community donate food from their home gardens to be given away.
The garden also provides space for people to grow food for themselves and their families. We have 200 sq ft and 100 sq ft plots available. The GGG offers scholarships to those in need. The garden is not restricted to residents of Goshen.
In addition to providing a place to grow fresh, organic vegetables, the community garden provides a place to share ideas and knowledge about gardening, especially important to the novice gardener. Workshops have been held on general gardening advice, how to plant seeds, composting, permaculture, and canning and preserving food.
A garden is a healthy and healing place for people to gather, to share, and to find a place of fellowship, community and peace.
