SYNC (Supporting Youth Nutrition and Care) is a program that is being added to our community outreach. According to the Feeding America website, children who are food insecure are 'more likely to have to repeat a grade in elementary school, experience developmental impairments in areas like language and motor skills and have more social and behavioral problems.
This new effort is being initiated to reduce food insecurity among the children of Goshen.
With donations received we will be supplying weekend food bags each Friday of the school year, beginning after April vacation, to those who request to receive them. Students are signed up by their parents through a survey which is handled by the school administration. The food bags will contain easy to prepare, kid friendly meals of non-perishable food items for breakfast and lunch meals for both Saturday and Sunday. A similar but more extensive program will be put into place for the summer and vacation periods.
Volunteers will be needed to help fill bags with food and to deliver the bags to Goshen Center School. The date to start this will be announced.
Volunteering is a great way to give back to the Goshen community and be involved in making a difference in someone's life.
